Designer's Profile

Ulrika Sandström, born 1974, was educated at Beckmans School of Design, Stockholm. Her first collection 'Francoise' was presented during Stockholm Fashion Week, February 2004.

With her own label "Ulrika Sandström", Ulrika endeavours to create wearable clothes with a unique feeling; fashion that comes both from the head as well as from the heart. She aims for the idea behind each collection to shine through and add emotional value to the garments.

Media and popular culture are natural components in the designs, often with a touch of nostalgia. Ulrika draws inspiration from art, strong personalities, or just things that make her heart beat faster.

She enjoys working with contradictions, whether in influences, colours, shapes, or structures, to create a dynamic look. Her love of music is always present within her work, and through her collections, Ulrika aspires to create an atmosphere, communicate a feeling, and/or raise a thought. Her conviction is that fashion should be not only visually beautiful but also intelligent.

The spring & summer collection 2008 is named Pretty In Pink, and it has the to purpose be exactly that. The challenge, springing from the designers' love/hate relationship with the colour, was to prove to herself and others that she could create a beautiful and wearable line of clothes, using all shades of pink - without exception. Inspiration was also drawn from old-fashioned underwear, corsets and fluffy underskirts, 90's girl bands, 80's sportswear and Ulrika herself in her early teens.

The catwalk show during Stockholm Fashion Week took place at +46. The models walked down a concrete runway surrounded by pink balloons to music by Lush, Throwing Muses and Liz Phair.
